Stevia is a delicious herb and this is a liquid extract made from it. We’re growing some in our herb garden, alongside the basil, lemon balm and mint! The leaves are sooooo sweet that some scrunch a few leaves in their hot tea!
Of all the "forms" stevia comes in, I find the liquid to be the easiest to use, plus I don’t notice an "after taste" with it! However, it is VERY concentrated, so put it in one drop at a time, taste testing along the way!
WHY USE STEVIA?
Everyone talks about the need to reduce the sugar in our diets, but there are some clear-cut ways in which Stevia might benefit you, which are -
* Weight Control – ZERO calories!
* Blood Sugar Control – ZERO glycemic index, ZERO glycemic load! In their writings, Wisdom Natural Brands writes,"...stevioside has been shown to reduce high blood sugar."
* Blood Pressure Control - Wisdom Natural Brands writes, "...stevioside has been shown to reduce high blood sugar and lower blood pressure."
WHAT EXACTLY IS STEVIA???
A friend of mine grows it in her garden, just like I grow mint! Somehow the folks at Wisdom convert the sweetness of the green leaves into a white powder or liquid.
WISDOM NATURAL BRANDS WRITES -
“Stevia is a naturally sweet plant native to Paraguay that is 30 times sweeter than sugar in its unprocessed form. With more than 1,000 studies and patents on Stevia, it is known to be all-natural, contain zero calories and have a zero glycemic index. Through a patented process the pure glycosides can be extracted from the Stevia leaves and turned into an intensely sweet powder that is 300 times sweeter than sugar. Stevia can also be turned into a delicious consumer friendly product safe for all beverages, soft foods and baking.”
STEVIA COMES IN MANY DIFFERENT FORMS – A LIQUID, A WHITE POWDER, A WHITE POWDER WITH FIBER INCLUDED, TABLETS AND FLAVORED LIQUID STEVIA.
When using in beverages, I find SteviaClear™ Liquid Stevia to be the easiest of all the forms of Stevia because it’s the simplest to measure – just put 2 drops to equal the sweetness of 1 tsp. of sugar.
WISDOM WRITES -
"Equivalencies are approximate. Adjust to your taste. Too much Stevia may taste bitter. When substituting Stevia for sugar in your own recipes you may have to adjust for the bulk. Try adding applesauce, apple butter or plain yogurt."
WISDOM NATURAL BRANDS WRITES -
"Instead of adding sugar or artificial sweetener to your beverages or food, use SteviaClear™ Liquid Stevia all-natural dietary supplement. SteviaClear™ Liquid Stevia contains an intensely sweet extract from Stevia leaves that is 250 to 300 times sweeter than sugar – yet has no calories, carbohydrates nor bitter aftertaste. SteviaClear™ Liquid Stevia is safe for diabetics and hypoglycemics."

There is an interesting article on the "history" of SweetLeaf stevia written by Joanna Cosgrove and entitled, "The Father of Stevia". It was published May 3rd, 2010 and if it’s still online, you can find it at
She writes, "Jim May recounts his roller coaster love affair with the little leaf that’s sweeter than sugar."
"Mr. May diligently adhered to his environmental principles and devised a proprietary extraction process that used only cool, purified water instead of solvents or alcohol derivatives. The product does not contain sucralose or aspartame, which are commonly found in other name-brand artificial sweeteners. And because the production process imbues no chemical or alcohol-produced bitterness, there is no need no bad aftertaste so therefore no masking or flavoring agents are needed."
"Wisdom Natural Brands’ commitment to quality also extended beyond the production process to include sustainable production of stevia plants, which also support the emerging economies of South America. And because no chemicals, solvents or alcohols are used in the extraction process or purification, there is no waste. The leaf residue becomes cattle feed or ground mulch. The spent water is reserved in large tanks and given to local farmers, who then fill tanker trucks with the highly nutritive water and use it to irrigate their growing crops."
So, it’s not just me whose been impressed with this company and their amazing products!
TESTIMONIAL ABOUT STEVIA -
Years ago, when a customer discovered we were adding stevia to our product line, she excitedly wrote back, "I have used Stevia for about 12 years. I used it when it came in capsule form and you had to break open the capsule to pour in your tea or coffee. Good stuff. I highly recommend it."
